036048B: Rear suspension bush kit

The rear axle of an E46, rebuilt in one box.

80 ShA polyurethane — the red compound. StrongFlex match this grade to the hardness of the original metal-rubber bushes, so the car keeps the ride it left the factory with. What changes is what the bush is made of: polyurethane does not perish, does not tear out, and shrugs off oil, grease, salt and solvents.

The rear is where a tired E46 gives itself away. Worn trailing arm and control arm bushes let the toe swing under load, and the car changes its mind halfway through a corner. New polyurethane pins that geometry down, and the back end starts doing what your right foot asks instead of what the rubber allows.

Fits BMW 3 Series E46 (98–07) — RWD, Compact and the 4x4 xi / xd — plus Z4 E85 / E86 (02–08) and Z4 E89 (09–16).
Not for the E46 M3 or the Z4 M — those cars run a different rear axle and take kit 036140B.

Choose the quantity you need. On a car that is dropped far enough to change the steering knuckle angle, this bush is not the right part for the upper knuckle mount — in that case take 2 pieces and leave the upper mount alone.
Red 80 ShA — close to the original bush hardness. Stability and precision without giving up comfort.
Yellow 90 ShA — for sport and lowered suspension. Much stiffer, made for speed and hard driving.

Both compounds have the same resistance to weather, oil, grease, salt, acid and solvent — the difference is hardness alone.
