The rear differential feeds the torsional load from the engine through the subframe and into the chassis. That \u003cb\u003econstant loading and unloading fatigues the sheet metal\u003c\/b\u003e until it separates from the chassis.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\nBMW’s own answer was a cross member on the front two mounting points, which puts the bushing and the stud in double shear and takes the twist out of them. It works — but it \u003cb\u003emoves the load to the left rear of the subframe\u003c\/b\u003e, and that is where Turner have seen the failures, on low-mileage street cars as well as race cars. BMW also injected foam into the space between the underside of the chassis and the top of the trunk; that does nothing about the spot welds letting go, and it makes later repair work harder — almost impossible to weld against.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\nThis kit \u003cb\u003ethickens the metal and spreads the load over a larger area\u003c\/b\u003e at those mounting points.
